Pamela Rudge studied at the Royal College of Music and now combines the post of Head of Music at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with a busy singing career.
She has a wide repertoire, from early to contemporary music, singing opera, light opera, oratorio, recitals and concert work, performing in concert halls, theatres and cathedrals throughout the UK, and also in France, Germany, Holland, Zimbabwe and Mali. This season she will be singing works that include Rossini's Petite Messe Solonelle, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Dixit Dominus, as well as Elgar's Sea Pictures.
On the operatic stage Pamela has sung roles ranging from Mrs Herring in Britten's Albert Herring to Suzuki in Puccini's Madame Butterfly. In recent years she has become more involved in chamber opera, most recently playing Madame Popova in Walton's setting of Chekhov's The Bear. Pamela has worked as a soloist for Radios 3 and 4 and for HTV Television. She also adjudicates and runs vocal workshops for choral societies and theatregroups. She works with a theatre group in St. Ives, Cornwall, and is vocal coach for several choirs. Pamela also teaches at Bristol University as part of the Lifelong Learning Programme in the Drama Department.
Pamela has conducted many musical theatre shows, orchestras and classical concerts. She is Musical Director for Tess of the D'Urbervilles, a Bristol Old Vic Theatre School production touring the West Country in the summer.
