As an actor John was initially best known for playing the character of Willy Pettit in five series of 'Bergerac' on BBC 1. He has appeared many times in various TV dramas, while his parallel theatrical career has involved him in leading roles at the Bristol Old Vic, The Royal National Theatre, The Old Vic in London, and many regional theatres. He has made hundreds of radio broadcasts, and in addition to contributing to Radio 4's 'Poetry Please' and being a much-in-demand reader of short stories on radio and for audio books, he currently plays the part of Alan, the vicar in 'The Archers'. As a musician and composer, John's tastes and abilities are wide-ranging. He is lead singer and keyboard player for the Bristol-based rock band AFGM (who have just released their 4th album), and is one half of an exciting new songwriting/performing duo, The Bushido Brothers. As a theatrical composer he has written for 'Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory', The Bristol Old Vic company, The Mermaid Theatre, Birmingham Rep, The Royal National Theatre, the Cambridge Theatre Company and The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has also composed music for numerous Radio 4 dramas, for BBC2 and for ITV, plus writing the score for four musicals. This is Johns fourth season with the Bristol Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society.
